Herdsmen crisis as cows reportedly wander into Abuja airport


A group of herdsmen and their cows were allegedly spotted straying into Abuja airport in the early hours of Sunday, March 18.

An report states that the herdsmen and their cattle have been regularly visiting the airport for quite some time.

The cows were seen enjoying the ambience of the airport area as they grazed on the grass located around the Abuja airport while one of the herdsmen was seen around them.

A Facebook user identified as Sheddy Ozoene shared the pictures online.

Meanwhile, Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state raised an alarm over a misnomer he witnessed at the Akure airport, Ondo state on Saturday, February 17. The governor said cows took over the runaway of the airport while an Air Peace aircraft from Lagos tried to land.

According to him, the presence of the cows in the runaway prevented the aircraft from touching down for about 15 minutes.

Two days after the reported invasion of the airport runway by cows, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) suspended the head of aviation security in Akure, Ondo state. Punch reported that an Air Peace flight from Lagos was at about 12.15pm on Saturday, February 17, prevented from landing at the Akure airport, as cows took over the runway.
